TRANSITION
STRATEGY TOOLKIT

for Corporations in ASEAN

This toolkit walks you through Climate Bonds Initiative’s five transition principles and helps you understand how you may develop a credible and science based green-transition plan for your institution.

The Methodology

In collaboration with the Climate Bonds Initiative, Capital Markets Malaysia has developed the Transition Strategy Toolkit designed to guide ASEAN corporates on the underlying principles and elements to be incorporated when developing climate transition plans. This toolkit guides users through the Climate Bonds Initiative’s Five (5) Principles for an ambitious transition. These Principles lay the groundwork for a credible transition label to enable investors to easily identify investments that support a low-carbon transition. Climate Bonds Initiative has identified five (5) Hallmarks that underpin a credible entity climate mitigation transition plan. These Hallmarks encompass the required ambition in terms of entity-level performance targets and the entity’s commitment and capacity to achieve those forward-looking goals. These five Hallmarks are encapsulated in the ‘Triple A’ framework of Ambition, Action, and Accountability, demonstrating the entity’s willingness, ability, and transparency in progressing towards a sustainable future.

What is a transition plan

A transition plan is a time-bound and trackable strategy and roadmap presenting the plans and actions for reducing emissions with a science-based pathway to net zero.

Who needs to issue transition plans

For many businesses, especially those in hard-to-abate industries like cement production or those where change takes time such as agriculture, a transition plan is fundamentally a tool that helps an entity think through what a Paris-aligned future could be and achieve net-zero targets.
